A friend has recently enlightened me to a NEW mascara advertisement which has been banned due to false advertising. According to Sky News it was banned “for exaggerating the effect of the product on her lashes”. The Advertising Standards Authority stepped in when it was believed Dior were producing false advertising to boost the sales of their product. This entails masses of questions regarding morals and ethics for which the advertising director clearly did not obtain. Once again, the common phrase used was ‘touched up by Photoshop’. As a designer myself, I am aware of the huge problems which currently stand with the overuse of Photoshop, however, I am deeply saddened that some people are solely money driven and therefor do not care what kind of advertising campaign they put out to the public as long as they make money.
